Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a big believer in grooming and taking care of yourself. I think it stems from my British heritage, it is very important as a culture to look presentable whenever possible. My grandmother used to always tell me that she would judge a man by the shine on his shoes and the care of his fingernails and hair. That always stuck with me…
Contrary to popular belief or sarcastic comments from my friends, it only takes me 15 – 20 minutes to get ready. I start my day, every morning with a nice hot shower. Then after a good towel dry, that’s where the products come in… See below for my breakdown.
Step One: Skincare On Point
I use a facial scrubber once a week to scrub away all of the dead skin cells. You’ll break out the next day, but that’s a good thing. It means all of your impurities are coming out. Additionally, I spray my entire body with Mario Badescu Rose Water ($7) it’s super cheap and lasts a long time, plus it leaves you feeling fresh and clean, clean.
Step 2: Make Me A Grill
This is pretty self explanatory, but, brush your teeth and brush them good. I was really worried last year when I went to the dentist and they explained to me that my gums were slightly receding. He told me that I need to make sure that I brush for at least three minutes and floss/use a pick to get off all that build up. I followed the dentist’s orders and saw a huge improvement in my gum and teeth health. I hate flossing, but I picked up this tooth pick thingy at target and it changed my life. You’ll be surprised at how much buildup is left over even after brushing. Then I always make sure to use Listerine Mouth Wash to get that clean taste. Additionally, I use a tongue scrapper too, to get off all of that bacteria on that tongue.
Step 3: Moisturize!
I don’t know why but this is my favorite part. I use Kiehls Facial Fuel first and later an oil eliminator to wake my face up. If I have any blemishes I make sure to use Burts Bees Herbal Blemish Stick, it works instantly and is an astringent that doesn’t irritate my skin. Perfect for getting rid of zits fast! I also use SkinFood which is a Korean brand, which is a Pore Emulsion Gel, that is so so good for your skin. Put that on before you spray the oil eliminator.
Step 4: Open Your Eyes
As I get older and my vision gets worse and so does my allergies, I notice my eyes have taken a hit. For this I use Kiehls Eye Alert for the lower part of my eye, visine or some sort of lubricating eye drop for my eye to get rid of redness when it is allergy season and then one of my favorite products Kiehls Eye Opening Serum. This is perfect if you are a grandpa like me and need to look awake in meetings or if you plan on going out later and need to look awake. I don’t know what magic Kiehls has put in this but I love it and it works. It’s $48 but I definitely recommend it. I’ve had mine for like two months now.
Step 5: Whip Your Hair Back and Forth
Most of the time, my hair is super simple. Pour a nickel sized amount of paste and then spread throughout, viola! Yet, for days that I don’t feel like doing my hair, I use Moroccan Hair Oil to add shine, thickness and curl to my hair. But let’s be honest, most days I just use Axe Messy Paste.
Step 6: Smell and Taste Good. It makes a difference.
I’m a huge perfume snob. I hate smelling like anyone else, so I won’t tell you exactly how I mix my colognes, but I will tell you that my base is L’Homme Parfume from Yves Saint Laurent. Also, I’m obsessed with EOS lip balm. It’s the only chapstick I like because it doesn’t make my lips more chapped after putting on.
And that’s it folks. Seems like a lot but it’s not that much. It’s important to take care of yourself and your body. Don’t forget it.
