I’ve never been a major Elvis fan, he was before my time – but there is something about the young Hollywood time period – Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Frank Sinatra – that really inspires me. The rawness of it all, the youth, the vibrancy. You can tell they just wanted to live, exude sex and love.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to come visit Elvis’ Honeymoon Hideaway for their annual holiday concert and guided tour. It was actually very fun and interesting. I always love exploring and discovering new random things to do and this was definitely one of them.
Elvis was truly a man of art and rock and roll. He was very blunt and truly loved what he did. I learned that he was a very giving man, often gifting Cadillacs to his plumber or maids. I think the story that stuck with me the most is that Elvis lived next to a very world famous Hollywood reporter, so instead of getting married in his house like he was planning, he made everyone exit out the back, grabbed a limo and left for vegas. That kind of I don’t care what people say about me attitude is truly admirable.
The event was followed up by a concert with Elvis and Frank Sinatra impersonators, which was absolutely lovely. All in all, I had a great time and encourage you to try new things like this next time you are out traveling!
